MARTENSVILLE, SK – Pryce Thiessen (Kindersley Klippers) scored twice, and Taye Timmerman (Warman Wolverines) and Kason Kobelka (Melfort Mustangs) combined for 37 stops as Team SJHL opened the 2025 Western All-Star Challenge, presented by Palliser Insurance, with a 3-2 win Tuesday evening.
A packed house at the Martensville Recreation Centre was treated to intense, physical hockey from both sides as the 40 men vied for a spot on Team Canada West at the 2025 Junior A World Challenge in Quebec in December.
Thiessen opened the scoring when he converted a nifty feed in the slot from below the goalline by Hudson Brehaut (Flin Flon Bombers) at 17:07 of the first period.
Cash Olson (Estevan Bruins) doubled the lead just over a minute later with a snifty toe-drag and snipe from the slot that beat MJHL starter Justin Perreault high.
Thiessen’s second came on a spinning shot that fooled the MJHL’s second goaltender, Ethan Sawyer, five-hole at the 3:43 mark of the final frame.
Loik Leduc (Niverville Nighthawks) and Ethan Stewart (Dauphin Kings) had late replies for the visitors, but the SJHL held on in front of Kobelka.
The two teams will renew hostilities tomorrow at 11:30 A.M. ST.
