REGINA, SK – With the buzzer to end Game 2 Wednesday afternoon, so too ended the 2024 Western All-Star Showcase, presented by Palliser.
Team SJHL came out flying in response to the Game 1 defeat. Two second-period goals from Viterra Division rivals – Dustin Renas of Yorkton and Jadon Iyogun of Melville – were the difference as the hosts downed Team MJHL 2-0 in Game 2. Weyburn Red Wings’ goaltender Angelo Zol picked up the 32-save shutout and stood particularly tall in the third period as the Manitoba Leaguers fired 14 shots at him.
The win meant the event ended in a split, as the 40 participants put on a terrific show for the many scouts and fans in the rink over both games.
“This event was a tremendous opportunity for several of our 2006 and 2007 players to compete for positions on Team Canada West and an opportunity to Showcase their talents to NCAA schools,” said SJHL Commissioner Kyle McIntyre.
“The event was broadcast across the FloHockey network and will be broken down by Instat for the analytics. The games and practices were intense, high paced and entertaining to watch. The attendance in Warman was solid, and the parents whose boys were part of the event felt it was first class, top to bottom. I was super impressed with how all 40 players from both leagues carried themselves throughout the event, both on and off the ice. We had several volunteers that assisted Director of Marketing Jacob Faith and I with the event, and of course, the staff at the first class Warman were fantastic with us throughout.”

“We talk about building a house and you can’t just have a carpenter,” Reagan said to Global News’ Scott Roblin. “You need plumbers, you need electricians, you need guys doing different jobs. We’re looking for size, we’re looking for speed, we’re looking for guys that can penalty kill and guys that can run a power play.
“All different aspects of the game.”
