KINDERSLEY KLIPPERS, RW

The Kindersley Klippers have a number of new faces in its line-up this year and while Will Van der Sloot is one of those new players he does bring some Junior “A’ experience to the fold.

The 18-year-old Van der Sloot comes to Kindersley after seeing limited action with the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Drumheller Dragons in the past two seasons. Having scored twice and setting up two others in 11 games with the Dragons, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound winger was expected to use his previous junior experience in leading the Klippers and so far he has delivered picking up three goals and one assist in eight games. Van der Sloot was not in the Kindersley line-up on the opening weekend of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League season, but has been a big reason for the Klippers going 5-2-1-0 since he joined the line-up.

In addition to toiling with Drumheller, the Medicine Hat product also spent two years with Edge School out of Calgary where he scored 20 times and assisted on 21 more in 69 games. Prior to his time with Edge School, Van der Sloot skated with the Southeast Tigers of the Alberta Bantam AAA Hockey League and in 33 games with the Tigers he collected 12 goals and 10 helpers.

The Klippers are part of the Olympic Buildings Division and the early results show that group to be the tightest race with just one point separating all four combatants. With so little room left for error every team will be counting on all of its players to be ready to compete each night and Van der Sloot could be a player to provide Kindersley with some extra firepower.
