The Weyburn Red Wings organization hosted Ron Rumball Night Friday at Whitecap Resources Centre, celebrating one of the most influential figures in Red Wings history.
Earlier this year, the Red Wings held an Alumni Game and Golf Tournament, bringing back many alumni members. Unfortunately, not all were able to attend at that time. On Friday, the club was honoured to recognize longtime contributor Ron Rumball, who made the trip back to Weyburn for the occasion.
The evening included a special video tribute highlighting Rumball’s remarkable career and impact on the Red Wings organization. He was joined by his wife, Lea, his daughter Kimberly, and several close friends, including former Red Wings General Manager Tanner McCall, former Estevan Bruins Head Coach and GM Chris Lewgood, and former Red Wings President Ryan Williams.
Rumball’s legacy with the Red Wings spans decades and countless roles. Since joining the Board of Directors in 1969, he has served as Assistant General Manager, Head Scout, Interim Coach, and General Manager. Whether sharpening skates or leading the club from behind the bench, his fingerprints are everywhere in Red Wings history.

Rumball’s impact on the game has also been recognized provincially. He was inducted into the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame in 2016.
“Ron has done it all for the Weyburn Red Wings,” said the organization. “From the boardroom to the bench, his dedication helped shape the tradition and success of our club. We are honoured to celebrate his legacy tonight.”
During the ceremony, the Weyburn Red Wings officially welcomed back Ron Rumball to the building he knows so well.
