YORKTON TERRIERS 2018-19 CAPSULE

By Mike Stackhouse

YORKTON TERRIERS

KEY RETURNEES

1999 G Ben Laidlaw (Calgary AB)

1998 D Brendan Mark (Grand Rapids MI USA)

2000 D Ben Solomon (Emerald Park SK)

1999 F Chantz Petruic (Moose Jaw SK)

1999 F Cody Bruchkowski (Cochenour ON)

1998 F Cole Keenleyside (Hazlet SK)

1998 F Quinton Hobbs (Deloraine MB)

The early favorites to be the most improved team in the league, the Terriers look loaded up front with all-star level returnees Petruic and Bruchkowski, joined by newcomers Brandt, Klatt, and Legien.  The blueline may be thin and that could mean added pressure on Laidlaw, but he had some impressive showings in the second half of last year.

OTHER PLAYERS TO WATCH

1998 F Colby Brandt (Regina SK) 8-goals and 35-assists in 54-games with Notre Dame and a chance to be a point per game player.

1998 F Jared Legien (Pilot Butte SK) 23-goals and 27-assists in 61-games in ANY league is a nice season; but Legien did this in the WHL and had 56-points in 51-games with the Terriers two years ago.  He’s going to fill the net.

1998 F Branden Klatt (Moose Jaw SK) A veteran of 183 games in the WHL, he had 7-goals and 8-assists in 69-games with Moose Jaw last year and is slated for a top role.

2001 F Aiden Bulych (Yorkton SK) He was good enough to play for the Terriers last year as a 16-year-old and was their most impressive forward a couple of times when he was called up.  His 13-goals and 21-assists in 42-games with Yorkton Midget AAA is only a glimpse of what he’s capable of.

2001 F Kishaun Gervais (Yorkton SK) Highly skilled, not very big, but if he’s got similar tenacity as older brother Kailum (five year Terrier) he will be a solid addition.  37-18-25-43 with Prince Albert AAA.

2000 F Jaxon Blight (Oakville MB) He was second on his Central Plains Midget AAA team in scoring with 19-goals and 36-assists in 48-games.

1999 D Ante Mustapic (Vancouver BC) is a huge blueliner at 6’4”, 220 lbs.  He went 32-0-7-7 with Nipawin and was acquired for Austen Flaman. He’ll bring much needed experience to the back end.

2000 D Carter Lake (Yorkton SK) Local product only played one year of Midget AAA, but he had a good season (41-6-14-20) at Tisdale and has a chance to play big minutes as a rookie.

2000 F Jordan Repsch (Melville SK) Has good size and is reliable defensively, also good on face-offs.  39-11-11-22 with Yorkton Midget AAA.

2000 F/D Keanan Sperling (Theodore SK) Versatile and willing to do whatever is needed to help the team.  Depending on what shakes loose at camp, his path to playing time appears to be on defense.
