Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

Yorkton Terriers 25/26 Season Preview

A combination of shrewd trading and solid development saw Emery Olauson deliver the proud Terriers’ fanbase their first home-ice advantage in Round 1 since before the Covid pandemic a year ago. Perhaps more importantly, they beat their huge rivals, the Melville Millionaires, in a post-season edition of the Highway 10 rivalry in that round.

Yet with some of the league’s most premium talents out the door to graduation, the pressure is on for returnees like speedster and local forward Jye Zawatzky, reigning SJHL RBC Community Ambassador Tylan Henrickson, elite two-way defender Thomas Ries, and goaltender Callum Creig to keep that momentum going.

The Terriers are excited about the addition of Gabriel Courchesne from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. They will look to a solid corps of returnees, like Quinn Tavander, William Leonard, and Vinay Junek, to take another step forward.

Yorkton scored the third most goals in the league a year ago, but it will be seen whether this group of dogs are more steak or sizzle.

Going into last season, a big question mark was their young blueline, but players like Thierry Laliberté and Riley Cormier performed well alongside Ries, and will be counted on again.

Let’s take a look at some key numbers from the last regular season for the Terriers:

SJHL Co-Director of Media Jamie Neugebauer sat down with Head Coach/GM Emery Olauson in the SCSA Coaches’ Show ahead of the 25/26 season and got his thoughts on the upcoming year.
