WEYBURN FINISHES WILD CARD SWEEP SUNDAY

The Weyburn Red Wings are the first Wild Card team moving on to the SJHL Quarter-Finals, after they finished their three game sweep of the Kindersley Klippers with a 6-4 decision in Kindersley on Sunday night.

Carson Rose, who finished the regular season on a 13 game point streak, potted two goals and an assist in Sunday’s clincher, and had 3-goals and 5-points in the three game sweep.

Braden Mellon (1g-1a), Ben Hiltz, Jacob Wozney and Ryan Rothenburger also found the net in Game 3.  Carter Phair and Jake MacLennan each made 17/19 saves, as Phair left the game halfway through.  He finished the series with a 1.20 GAA and a .971%.

Josh Fletcher (1g-1a), Cameron Shorrock (1g-1a), Jake Gerbner and Branden Wagner scored for the Klippers.  Wagner opened the scoring in his final junior game, and Shorrock also gave Kindersley a 4-3 lead 4:20 into the third period before the Red Wings rattled off the next three.

The Wings won’t know who’ll they’ll face starting next weekend until the conclusion of the Melfort & Notre Dame Wild Card Series, which currently sits tied 1-1 ahead of Monday night’s Game 3 in Wilcox.

If the 7th seeded Hounds win that series, they would face #2 Flin Flon, sending Weyburn to a date with #1 Battlefords.  If Melfort pulls off the upset, they would get the Stars, with Weyburn heading to Flin Flon.
