The Flin Flon Bombers are perfect through the first half of their four games in five nights road trip, following up Wednesday’s win in Melfort with a 6-1 victory over the Millionaires in Melville on Thursday.
That’s now 12 straight (11-0-1) games without a loss in regulation for the Bombers (32-10-2-3), and they’re now 8 points up on Nipawin for the Sherwood Division lead, and all of a sudden just 6 points back of Battlefords for top spot overall.
Melville’s Tucker Scantlebury opened up the scoring just 1:07 into the game, but the Bombers rolled from there, and it started with defenseman Eric Sinclair. The 20-year-old tied things up on the powerplay in the first period, and put them ahead to stay early in the second with his second of the night.
Jordan McCausland had a goal and two assists, while Nick Shumlanski (1g-1a), Teal Sobkowicz and Mason Etter all picked up goals and Brenden Newton made 14/15 saves as Flin Flon nearly doubled the Millionaires (17-26-2-0) on the shot clock, 29-15.
Melville’s dropped five in a row and remain six points out of a playoff spot.
The Millionaires are right back at it Friday, on the road in Humboldt. The Bombers have Friday off before resuming their four game trip Saturday night in Notre Dame, and wrap it up Super Bowl Sunday afternoon in Estevan.
