BRUINS WIN IN SHOOTOUT SUNDAY

By Craig Stein

Matt Lukacs stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced, and four out of five breakaways during the shootout, and the Estevan Bruins grabbed two points in a 3-2 (SO) win over the Nipawin Hawks in a battle of second place teams on Sunday night.  Declan Hobbs turned away 38/40 shots for the Hawks at the other end.

The Bruins (12-5-1-0) are now just a point back of Weyburn for the Viterra Division lead, while the single point leaves Nipawin (11-4-1-2) two points behind Weyburn for top spot in the Sherwood.

Zach Goberis and Kaelan Holt did the scoring for the Bruins, and then each of them scored again in the shootout.

Carter Doerksen opened the scoring for the Hawks and Brandan Arnold added a third period goal to force extra time.  The Hawks went 1-1-0-1 on their weekend swing.
