Caden Benson

It took a couple of seasons and a bunch of different stops, but Kindersley Klipper winger Caden Benson appears to have found a home in west-central Saskatchewan.

The Stoney Plain, Alta., product was on four different Alberta Junior Hockey League teams in the last two seasons before landing in Kindersley this fall and so far in eight games with the Klippers he has almost matched his output in 55 games with those other four teams.

The 19-year-old Benson has three goals and three assists in his first eight games with the Klippers, which matches his goal production from his time in the AJHL and leaves him just five points shy of what he totalled in points.

The 5-foot-10, 178-pound Benson began his junior career in 2016-17 when he notched one goal in two games with the Spruce Grove Saints. He then moved to the Lloydminster Bobcats where he appeared in 38 games and produced two goals and seven helpers to finish that campaign.

The next year saw him having short stints with both the Whitecourt Wolverines and Drayton Valley Thunder where he registered just one assist in 15 games between the two clubs. Benson also saw action with the Stoney Plain Flyers in the Capital Junior Hockey League that season and there he had his biggest offensive output since the midget level when he tallied four goals and added 13 assists in 16 games.

Prior to embarking on his busy junior career, Benson had modest success at both the bantam and midget levels as he was more than a point-per-game player in his final season with the Spruce Grove Bantam AAA Saints (20-28-48 in 33 games) and first year with the PAC Midget AAA Saints (13-13-26 in 24 games). Benson finished his Midget AAA days with the St. Albert Raiders and in 33 games he amassed 18 points.

The Klippers are off to a great start this year and with depth players like Benson continuing to contribute they could very well make some noise in the highly competitive Global Ag Risk Solutions Division.
