Everywhere a Sign! Directwest Offers Personal Messages on Digital Billboards for Customers

Have you ever wanted to celebrate a special occasion while sharing it with the world?  Directwest is now making that possible with a more personalized billboard service.

In the past, Directwest-owned digital billboards were traditionally sold to businesses only. Recently, that has expanded to a more personal level, an opportunity that arose from the limitations of COVID-19 for the SaskTel subsidiary.

“With the lack of gatherings over the past year, we thought we had a great opportunity to provide a new way to celebrate birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, and other special occasions and open up a new selling avenue to consumers,” said Clayton Zurowski, Vice President – Revenue Growth and Technology.

This more personal billboard messaging is available through directwest.com and has been developed in a way to make the selection, creation and payment of the billboard simple and self-serve for the customer.

“When they select their billboard, the preview pane is in the actual aspect ratio of their board so they can truly see what it will look like before submitting,” said Zurowski.  “When they submit their order, an e-mail is sent to our product team with a screenshot (along with other details) of the requested billboard.  We then approve or reject the board (which cannot include political or inappropriate messaging) and the customer gets an e-mail confirmation.”

“If approved, their credit card is charged, and the order is submitted into our system and Broadsign (the billboard software Directwest uses) automatically.”

The cost for this service is $99 per day, with a customer’s message showing for six seconds every minute for the entire day (or days if they book multiple) that they booked.

Directwest held a successful employee pilot for the service before making it available to the public.

“It generated lots of excitement!” said Zurowski.  “We found most people wanted to drive down and get a picture of their loved one under the billboard.”

“We feel it will do the same for the general .”
