Vito Biondo III will play collegiate hockey in his hometown of St. Louis.
The three-year Hawks defenceman has committed to Maryville University. The Saints play in the ACHA Men’s top division and will their home rink is 15 minutes from Biondo’s house in Missouri. Head Coach and General Manager Tad Kozun is happy to see his top defender commit to a college to continue his career.
“Vito has been a tremendous Hawk and I knew a good program would seek his services,” Kozun added. “Killing penalties, playing the powerplay, he has done it all for us and I am sure that will continue with the Saints.”
Biondo joined the Hawks in 2022-23, he went on to play 42 games his first year scoring twice and adding 10 assists. He was also named Nipawin’s rookie of the year that season. Last year he scored twice and added 15 assists, currently this year after rejoining the team following a stint with the Maine Nordiques of the North American Hockey League Biondo has another pair of goals and 10 assists in 40 games.
On the ice the Hawks host Melville Saturday at 7 p.m.
