HAWKS COMPLETE SWEEP

By Mike Stackhouse

Eric Bolden and Daven Smith scored goals 1:03 apart late in the first period to open up a scoreless game and the Nipawin Hawks never looked back from there as they edged the Humboldt Broncos 4-3 to complete a four game series sweep in their best of seven quarter-final series.

The Hawks won the game despite allowing Tristen Elder to score three times for the Broncos, his first three goals of the series after scoring two in his previous 26 regular season contests.

Keegan Kjargaard’s first of the series put the game out of reach after Elder had made it 3-2 midway through the middle period.  Kjargaard’s goal came with just over two minutes remaining in the second.

Elder’s hat trick goal came with plenty of time left on the clock, but Kristian Stead didn’t allow anything further in finishing the night with 29-saves.

Tanner Thompson had Nipawin’s other goal.

Garrett Mason had 42-saves in the Humboldt net.

The Hawks now have a week off before their next series.
