HAWKS WIN SEVENTH IN A ROW

By Craig Stein

The Nipawin Hawks made it three straight wins since Christmas, and seventh wins in a row overall as they blanked the visiting Yorkton Terriers 5-0 in the only game in the SJHL Tuesday night.

Declan Hobbs needed just 17 saves for his second shutout of the year, and the fifth this season for the Hawks as a team.

Michael Grant scored a pair of goals in Tuesday’s win, as the Hawks (20-10-2-1) picked up their 20th win, and moved to within seven points of Flin Flon, with four games in hand, for the Sherwood Division lead.

Grant Baetsen, Josh McDougall and Keegan Kjargaard also added goals while Josh Bly and Eric Bolden added two assists each.  Bolden has three points (1g-2a) in three games since returning to the Hawks from Elmira College.

After back to back wins out of the break, the loss drops the Terriers back to .500 at 17-17-3-0, keeping them out of a top six spot, two points back of Weyburn for the time being.

Yorkton finishes their mid-week road trip Wednesday in Melfort, while other action has Notre Dame playing their first game of the new year, in Melville.
