HILTZ, SPADAFORA HEADLINE DECEMBER 1 TRANSACTIONS

Last year’s SJHL Rookie Of The Year, Luke Spadafora, is headed back to the Humboldt Broncos.  The Mils dealt 2000 F Spadafora (Calgary AB) for 2001 F Zach McIntyre (Rhein SK) and 2001 F Spencer Weinkauf (Calgary AB).  Of note here is that Spadafora, Weinkauf, and Mils rookie Nic Porterfield are all from the Calgary Northstars program so Weinkauf and Porterfield are reunited.  McIntyre gets closer to his home of Rhein SK and should step into a top six role immediately.  McIntyre had 10-goals and 14-assists in 30-games with the Broncos this season, while Weinkauf had 3-goals and 3-assists in 19-games, but he was one of the top players for the AAA North Stars in Calgary last year.  Spadafora began his SJHL career in Humboldt but was traded for Logan Foster last season.  Spadafora has 12-goals and 27-assists in 30-games.

Melville also sent back-up goalie Ethan Lahmon to Waywayseecappo MJHL for futures, forward Jaden Hewes to the MHL’s Truro Bearcats for futures and also released forward Jack Verstraete.

The Broncos also got 2000 D Spencer McHardy (Calgary AB) from the AJHL’s Okotoks Oilers for Colin MacPherson.  McHardy had 1-assist in 6-games with the club this year after coming back from the NAHL.  He scored 3-goals and 15-assists in 52-games as a rookie.  MacPherson, a Calgary product, heads back home.

Estevan picked up 2001 F Erik Boers (St Albert AB) from the AJHL’s Camrose Kodiaks for futures.  Boers has a nose for the net and Head Coach Chris Lewgood says, “He will help our team both short and long term.  He has offensive abilities and high level leadership characteristics.  He’s a big assertive winger.”  Boers had 3-goals and 2-assists in 17-games and is coming off a Midget AAA season in which he averaged nearly a point per game.

Melfort filled a hole on their defense by acquiring 2001 D Ryan MacLean (North Vancouver BC) from the Grande Prairie Storm for futures.  MacLean has pointless in 17-games.

The Mustangs also exchanged forwards by sending Ryley Lanthier to the Canmore Eagles (AJHL) for 1999 F Tian Rask (Saskatoon SK).  Rask AP’d with the Humboldt Broncos in his Midget AAA years and scored 18-goals and 31-assists in 54-games with the Eagles last year before contributing 8-goals and 2-assists in 28-games this year.  Lanthier, meanwhile, was immediately flipped from Canmore to the MJHL’s Swan Valley Stampeders for futures/pdf.

As previously reported, Weyburn added forward Dace Prymak and defenseman Jordan Gagnon and sent out Ben Hiltz to the Battlefords North Stars.

The Stars also dealt Brett Gammer to Prince George (BCHL) for Jaxon Steele earlier this weekend.

Yorkton had to get down in numbers up front, so they dealt 2000 F Jaxon Blight (Portage MB) to the MJHL’s OCN Blizzard for futures.

Kindersley sent Drayson Collyer closer to his hometown of Brandon by dealing him to the Virden Oil Capitals (MJHL) for futures.

Estevan moved Kolton Leslie to Portage (MJHL) in a futures transaction.
