Home for the Holidays

The final night of the SJHL season prior to the holiday break was an entertaining one with a total of five games on the ice.

Yorkton 2 Weyburn 4

The Weyburn Red Wings returned home and gave their fans something to cheer about as they doubled up their division rival. Tyler Teasdale netted the game winner with 3:37 left in the 3rd to vault the Wings to their 12th win of the season and into a tie for 7th in the SJHL standings.

Notre Dame 2 Humboldt 5 

After dropping a 5-4 decision at home to the Weyburn Red Wings, the Humboldt Broncos bounced back in a big way Saturday with a 5-2 win over Notre Dame. Travis Bryson led the way for the Broncos netting a pair in the win and bringing his goal total to 15 on the season. The victory was Humboldt’s 20th of the campaign.

Melfort 4 Nipawin 1 

The Melfort Mustangs bounced back in the return matchup against the Nipawin Hawks Saturday, earning a 4-1 win on the road to improve to 22-9-3-0 on the season. The Mustangs had four different goal scorers in the win and newcomer Clay Sleeva set up a pair as the Mustangs secured two points.

Kindersley 2 Battlefords 5

Battlefords extended their point streak to eight Saturday at home with a 5-2 win over the Kindersley Klippers as they completed the weekend sweep. Kian Bell put on a show at the ACC in the final home game before the holidays, netting a hat-trick and adding two assists in the victory. He is now tied with Justin Lies at the top of the SJHL scoring race going into the break.

La Ronge 0 Flin Flon 4 

Kenneth Marquart made 24 saves and the Flin Flon Bombers sent the hometown fans home happy with a 4-0 win over the La Ronge Ice Wolves. It was a balanced attack Saturday at home for the Bombers with four different goal scorers, and they enter the holiday break at the top of the SJHL standings with an impressive 28-1-2-0 record.


The league will now be off until December 30th when the Yorkton Terriers host the Melville Millionaires as part of their holiday home and home.

Beginning Monday on the “12 Days of Christmas (Break)” will begin as we look at each SJHL club during the holiday break and see how they have done to start the season and what the rest of their year looks like.

Also, there will be one more edition of Players of the Week released on on Monday, December 18th and another edition of Power Rankings on Tuesday, December 19th.
