HOUNDS START TRIP WITH WIN

By Craig Stein

The Notre Dame Hounds opened up a three game Northern Saskatchewan road swing with a 4-1 victory in La Ronge on Thursday night.

The Hounds banked two points ahead of games against two of the league’s top teams in Flin Flon on Friday, and Nipawin on Saturday.

Jarrett Penner opened the scoring and finished it off for a two goal night while Charles Martin and Marshall Wilton sandwiched goals in the middle.  Matt Lukacs made 29/30 saves, and is now 2-0 as a Hound with a 1.50 GAA and .949%.

Antonio Di Paolo replied for the Ice Wolves (10-35-1-1) and Jordan Frey made 43/47 saves.

The Hounds (20-17-5-4) are now tied for 8th overall with 47 points.  Both Yorkton and Estevan are also stuck on 47.  One of those two will win the Viterra Division and more than likely have the third overall seed, while the other (Yorkton or Estevan) would slip to 8th or even 9th, and quite possibly meet Notre Dame in a Best-of-Three Wild Card series.

Estevan and Weyburn plays a home and home as part of the fifth to last weekend of the regular season.  Kindersley and Battlefords will trade places in Yorkton and Melville Friday in Saturday, huge games for all teams.
