The Melfort Mustangs have announced that another one of their 20-year-olds from this season has committed to continuing their hockey career.

Medicine Hat, Alta. native Hayden Prosofsky will be attending the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, come this fall.

The 2003-born forward will compete in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) against the likes of former Mustangs Nolan Doell, Dawson Leroux, Kevin Minnoch, and now, Joel Favreau.

In a combined 42 games with Melfort this season, Prosofsky has seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points, to go along with 78 penalty minutes.

Prior to this year, he spent most of his Junior A career in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) with the Lloydminster Bobcats and Drumheller Dragons.

“Hayden immediately showed his personality and passion for the game upon his arrival. A leader and well-liked in the dressing room, he had an immediate impact as a ‘glue guy’ with our group,” said Mustangs Head Coach and General Manager Trevor Blevins.

“He was a big-body forward who produced both defensively and offensively. Hayden overcame adversity with injuries this season and battled through to come back for our playoff run. This shows a great amount to his character and determination. SAIT will be gaining an overall great player.”

Prosofsky is planning on enrolling in the business program and is keeping an open mind on where his future may take him.

He was also Melfort’s Mr. Teddy Bear Toss this season.

“I have really enjoyed my time in Melfort. The community and fans have made it a really great place for me to wrap up my junior hockey career. The fans and the team have made me feel at home and I would like to thank everyone in Melfort, especially my billets,” Prosofsky added.

“I would also like to thank the Drumheller Dragons and the Lloydminster Bobcats for being a part of my hockey journey.”
