Natural Defender – Red Wings Petrie joins Jacks Hockey at Northland College

Northland College Hockey is pleased to announce the commitment of Defensemen Tristan Petrie to their 2019 recruiting class. Petrie is a native of Lloydminster, AB, Canada and spent this past season with the Weyburn Redwings of the SJHL.

The shutdown defensemen has played in 116 total junior hockey games in his career and produced 16 Assists and 168 penalty minutes during that time. His size, strength, and ability to defend was more visible during his final season of junior hockey in Weyburn and something Northland College was looking to add to their blue-line.

Head Men’s Hockey Coach and Interim Director of Athletics, Seamus Gregory commented on Petrie joining the program. “He’s big, strong, and can defend, his toughness something we felt we lacked this past season and in the recruiting process we kept coming back to Tristan. In our rink and at this level he’s going to be hard to play against and adding him automatically makes us harder to play against. In the process of recruiting Tristan it was glaring that he’s unselfish player & person who is willing to do whatever it takes to win. He is a tremendous student and is a credit to himself and his family” said the coach.

The LumberJacks open the 2019-2020 season on the road in Duluth when they travel to the College of St. Scholastica for an exhibition game on Saturday, October 26th at 3:00pm.
