SGEU MVP of the Week: Matthew Spencer-Dahl, Melville Millionaires

Second week in a row, MSD is the MVP, and it was high praise from his coach, Doug Johnson, when the supervet Melville bench boss said, “He is just what we need.” The Bunge Division is the only one in the league where all four teams have 30 points-plus, and Melville’s recent hot streak, including two big wins against Melfort this past week, has a lot to do with the play of their new goaltender.

Week Stats: 2-0-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .950 SV%, 57 saves

Bourgault Forward of the Week: Jacob Strizzi, Humboldt Broncos

Times are hard in Humboldt, which even fell out of the playoff picture this past weekend. Yet Strizzi’s production remains consistent, and Saturday’s big win, featuring Jacob’s five-point night, over La Ronge could not have been more timely. Hard to think of a firmer lock for the Viking Cup than Humboldt’s point-producing machine.

Week Stats: 2 GP – 3 G, 2 A, 5 PTS

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Linken Fisher, Battlefords North Stars

Battlefords has been one of the best stories of the league this year, and Fisher’s production and durability have been an enormous piece of it. The Stars went toe to toe with and beat a red-hot Estevan team Friday to kick off a three-games-in-three-days run, and Fish, who is one of the nicest kids in the league, tied a season-high with three points on the night.

Week Stats: 3 GP – 0 G, 4 A, 4 PTS

SaskTel Goaltender of the Week: Dylan Adams, Estevan Bruins

There have not been too many performances in the history of the league quite like Adams’ show in Humboldt on Sunday. He allowed nothing on 48 shots, making it the second-best shutout in the league this decade so far, and with all the firepower the Bruins possess, their elite goaltending does not get talked about enough.

Week Stats: 1-1-0-0, 2.52 GAA, .947 SV%, 1 SO

SaskMilk Rookie of the Week: Nate Stevens, Weyburn Red Wings

A wild bout of illness hit the Wings this past week, but in true Weyburn fashion, they still found a way to grab four of six points from the three games. Stevens played in all three games and won both his starts while making 36 saves each night. He would be the first to say that the Wings have an outstanding defence corps and a responsible crew of forwards, but when the big save is needed, he and Preston Patenaude have regularly answered the bell.

Week Stats: 2-1-0-0, 2.29 GAA, .934 SV%

Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Eric Hoiness, Nipawin Hawks (Saskatoon, SK)

It was a slow start to the year by Hoiness’ standards, but as the weather gets colder, the veteran keeps getting hotter. A three-point night in a big Nipawin win over Flin Flon Friday is sure to make any Hawks fan smile, and he owns a share of the league lead in game-winning goals at the time of writing with three.

Week Stats: 3 GP – 1 G, 3 A, 4 PTS
