CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alec Malo, Flin Flon Bombers
1999 F Alec Malo (Laval PQ) erupted for 1-goal and 8-assists in 3-games played this past week as he tries to keep pace with Chantz Petruic in the SJHL scoring race. Malo had a goal and two assists at Humboldt on Thursday night, including setting up the tying goal in the third period and then scoring the winner late in the third. Malo had an assist in a close 3-2 loss to the Battlefords North Stars on Friday and then he went off for five assists in a shocking 10-1 win over the Stars on Saturday. Malo leads the league by a wide margin with 50 assists on the year and he’s tied for second in league scoring with 61-points, 10 back of Petruic. Runner-up: Cole Rafuse, Flin Flon.
MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK: Douglas Scott, Humboldt Broncos
2000 D Douglas Scott (North Vancouver BC) picked up a goal and three assists in two games played last week as he gets more comfortable in his new surroundings. Scott, acquired on December 1st after starting the season in the BCHL with Vernon and Merritt, set up a goal against Flin Flon on Friday night and then scored one and assisted on two others in a dominating victory over Melville on Saturday. Those were his first points in the SJHL and he now has 4-points in 3-games overall. Runner-up: Mason Martin, Flin Flon.
SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK: Xavier Cannon, La Ronge Ice Wolves
2001 G Xavier Cannon (Kamloops BC) made his first two starts in an Ice Wolves uniform this past week and he posted victories in each of them. Cannon stopped all 32-shots he faced in a tight 2-0 win over Nipawin on Friday night. Saturday he had much more offensive support in an 8-2 decision and he made 33-saves in earning that win. Cannon, a rookie, was brought in earlier this month after playing four games in Whitecourt AJHL. His small sample size is impresssive at 2-and-0, 1 shutout, .970-SPCT, and 1.00-GAA. Runner-up: Keenan Rancier, Estevan.
DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Tristan Lemyre, Flin Flon Bombers
2001 F Tristan Lemyre (Mirabel PQ) has been on a tear and he ripped apart opposing goalies this past week with 6-goals and 4-assists in 3-games. Lemyre factored in the win against Humboldt big time Thursday night with a goal and three assists. He scored both of his team’s goals in a 3-2 loss to Battlefords on Friday and then he potted a hat trick and four points in a 10-1 beatdown of the Stars on Saturday. Lemyre has 19-points in his last 9-games and is up to 16-goals and 14-assists in 22-games overall. Runner-up: Nolan Doell, La Ronge.
