PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Dec 18)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Chantz Petruic, Yorkton Terriers
1999 F Chantz Petruic (Moose Jaw SK) has shouldered much of the Terrier offense this season and he helped them pick up three points in the standings in three games played this past week by firing 3-goals and 2-assists over that stretch.  He scored once and set up another as the Terriers upset Melfort on Tuesday.  He scored twice in a shootout loss to Notre Dame on Friday.  He picked-up an assist on Saturday in a loss to the Hounds and now has 11-goals and 19-assists in 26-games.  Runner-up:  Zach Goberis, Estevan.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Taryn Kotchorek, Battlefords North Stars
1997 G Taryn Kotchorek (North Battleford SK) made two starts last week and stopped 63-of-67 shots as the Stars picked up three of a possible four points in his two appearances.  It raises Kotchorek’s overall numbers to 10-and-4 with a 2.52-GAA and .915-SPCT.  He has two shutouts.  He stopped 34-of-37 against red hot Nipawin on Tuesday as the Stars fell in overtime.  He made 29-saves on 30-shots in his appearance over the weekend versus Flin Flon.  Runner-up:  Brandon Wells, Melville.

IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Johnny Witzke, Estevan Bruins
1998 D Johnny Witzke (Bismarck ND USA) lit up the scoresheet last week with 2-goals and 6-assists in 3-games played to lead, not only, all defensemen; but also all players overall.  He kicked off the week with a goal and four points in a 9-2 rout of Notre Dame.  He scored a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Melville on Friday and then set up his team’s only two goals in a 4-2 loss to the Mils on Saturday.  He has 5-goals and 22-assists in 32-games on the season.  Runner-up:  Josh McDougall, Nipawin.

MYSASK 411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Zach Kosteniuk, Notre Dame Hounds
2000 F Zach Kosteniuk (White City SK) helped contribute to a pair of wins over the Yorkton Terriers this past weekend by scoring two goals and two assists on the weekend.  Kosteniuk scored once in Wilcox when the Hounds took a 4-3 shootout decision and then he added a goal and two helpers on Saturday as the Hounds emerged 7-3 victors on the road.  Kosteniuk is up to 11-goals and 7-assists in 33-games this season.  Runner-up:  Jake Tremblay, Nipawin.
