SGEU MVP of the Week: Anthony Campbell, Battlefords North Stars

Both Campbell and his teammate and fellow award winner this week, Gavin Granger, scored in the Viking Cup Gold Medal Game, and word out of the Stars’ camp is that both have been even better and more energized since the event over the holidays. Campbell has been a dominant face-off guy all year for Battlefords, kills penalties, and has been a terrific leader on a team that has far surpassed what the outside noise said. He had a brilliant week, highlighted by big nights against fellow championship contenders Nipawin and Weyburn as the Stars won all four games they played in five days.

Week Stats: 4 GP – 5 G, 4 A – 9 PTS

Bourgault Forward of the Week: Ewan Rennie, Estevan Bruins

With Jacob Strizzi out of the league after the trade deadline, the Bruins’ superstar Rennie is now the clear betting favourite to win the scoring title. He had three and five-point nights as Estevan blew past a young and shorthanded Warman Wolverines team, and looked like he was going to generate offence every single shift. The veteran’s consistency and intelligence have been on display all season long. While his line-mates, Rylan Williams and Cash Olson, are both terrific players as well in their own right, the three of them together have been almost unstoppable since the puck dropped on 2025-26.

Week Stats: 2 GP – 4 G, 4 A – 8 PTS

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Gavin Granger, Battlefords North Stars

Granger saved his best game at the Viking Cup for the Gold Medal, opening the scoring and picking his spots to jump into the rush at the right time. Now second in league defenceman scoring, one behind Melville’s Boston Harkness, the North Stars’ star blue liner was one off his season high with three points in Saturday’s win in Melfort. His 26 assists in 31 games are the second most among all skaters in the SJHL at the time of this writing.

Week Stats: 4 GP – 0 G, 6 A – 6 PTS

SaskTel Goalie of the Week: Spencer Michnik, Battlefords North Stars

Fresh off a difficult spell in the BCHL, Michnik jumped into the fire for Battlefords just after being traded with the high-flying Weyburn Red Wings in town. The 19-year-old Albertan was brilliant in the North Stars’ epic 3-2 shootout win Friday, stopping 39 Weyburn shots in regulation and overtime, and then an incredible 20 of 21 shots in the skills competition.

Week Stats: 1-0-0-0, 1.85 GAA, .951 SV% (39/41 saves +  vs. WEY)

SaskMilk Rookie of the Week: Cash Olson, Estevan Bruins

Cash Olson’s bid for the rookie of the year award continues to be as strong as anybody’s, and the man who also impressed at the Martensville Western All-Star Challenge continues to work. On a line with two wily vets, the youngster has had the freedom from his Coach Drew Kocur to be creative and try things in the offensive zone, and has more than paid off for the SAHA alum. He and the Bruins showed no mercy to the Warman Wolverines this past weekend.

Week Stats: 2 GP – 1 G, 6 A – 7 PTS

Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Josh Knittig, Battlefords North Stars (from Saskatoon, Sask)

The North Stars have become a real match-up problem with four really dangerous lines, and the partnership of the crafty Campbell in the middle with the powerful Knittig on the left has been especially tough to stop lately. Knittig is on a league-high 10-game point streak, with 16 points over that span, and is a big reason the Stars are one of, if not the hottest team in the SJHL right now.

Week Stats: 4 GP – 5 G, 4 A – 9 PTS
