We highlight Gage Roberts of the Nipawin Hawks for the 11th episode of our 2024-25 SJHL RBC Community Ambassadors series.
RBC Community Ambassadors are recognized for making a difference and giving back to the communities where they play. Each Ambassador is celebrated at an RBC Game Night* and will be honoured by a donation from RBC to a school in their local community.
SJHL fans will be able to vote online for the RBC Community Ambassador of their choice to be honoured as the recipient of the RBC Community Award at the end of the SJHL regular season. This additional honour is accompanied by a further donation from RBC in the player’s name to a school in their local community.
Gage’s $1,000 donation from RBC will go to Central Park Elementary School in Nipawin, SK.
According to the Hawks, the Fort McMurray, Alberta native “has made a significant impact both on and off the ice, earning admiration for his hockey skills and his dedication to community service.
“His involvement in Nipawin reflects his genuine commitment to giving back and making a difference. Gage spends afternoons at Central Park Elementary School, helping Mrs. Sylvester with her kindergarten class. His patience and kindness have made him a favourite among the young students, who look forward to his visits each week. Gage shares his love for skating with the next generation of hockey players every Monday & Thursday by volunteering his time to help the U11 Nipawin Hawks with practices. Then, on Thursdays, he volunteers with the CanSkate program.
Gage’s commitment to the community extends to supporting meaningful initiatives. He participated in Nipawin’s domestic violence awareness walk, demonstrating his support for survivors and advocating for a safer community. Additionally, he contributed to the Smile Cookie campaign at Tim Hortons, helping raise funds for local charities. He joined members of Handiworks for a spirited game of road hockey, creating memorable moments for participants of all abilities. Whether it’s road hockey or pickleball—a sport you’ll occasionally see him playing on Tuesdays and Thursdays—Gage is always ready to engage with the community through sports.
Future Plans for the New Year In 2025, Gage will expand his community involvement even further. He plans to assist young children at the Early Resource Centre develop gross motor skills. Additionally, he will support the Recreation Director at Pineview Lodge, bringing joy and companionship to local seniors. Gage is known for his unwavering willingness to help whenever needed. His selflessness and dedication embody the spirit of the Nipawin Hawks and inspire others to give back.
