REGINA, SK – Weyburn, Melfort, and Kindersley all picked up huge wins Saturday night as the league enters its penultimate week of the regular season.
The Red Wings’ victory in La Ronge, and Yorkton’s defeat at home to the Kindersley Klippers, move Weyburn a full six points clear of the Terriers for the eighth and final playoff spot. Their victory and the Bruins’ loss moved head coach Cody Mapes’ team into seventh place on win percentage.
At the same time, Kindersley’s win jumps them a point ahead of Estevan for sixth and two points behind idle Melville. The Klippers win was even more critical given head coach Clayton Jardine’s men have now played the most games in the league, with only two contests remaining. The 27-save shutout was Logan Falk’s first of his SJHL career.
Up at the top of the standings, the Melfort Mustangs’ overtime win in North Battleford bumped them a full two points ahead of the North Stars for second in the league, though the point was the defending champions’ first in five games.
