REGINA, SK – Avery Lowe scored the go-ahead goal 3:28 into the third period, and Brady Holtvogt made 34 stops as the Humboldt Broncos capped off a perfect weekend with a 3-2 win over the Estevan Bruins on a busy Saturday in the league.

The win moved Humboldt within one point of Estevan for the eighth and final playoff spot, with a game in hand.

Marik Mamic’s empty netter proved the winner as Matthew Ronn brought the Bruins within one with 39 seconds remaining in regulation.

In another Highway 10 rivalry classic, Gabriel Courchesne tied the game with the Yorkton net empty with 1:25 remaining in the third period before Jye Zawatsky’s overtime winner sealed the Terriers’ 4-3 come-from-behind victory in the extra frame.

Yorkton has now won six in a row and is holding on to the No. 3 spot over Nipawin on win percentage.

Those Hawks did their part by rallying from down 3-1 in the second period to beat the La Ronge Ice Wolves 5-4.

Jack Janzen’s goal at 17:47 of the third period held up as the winner to extend Nipawin’s current win streak to three.

Janzen and rookie Sean Shiels both had two-goal games to lead the way offensively.

The Melfort Mustangs kept their playoff hopes alive by capping off a two-game sweep of the Kindersley Klippers with a 5-4 come-from-behind shootout win.

Melfort trailed 3-0 and 4-1, and was led on the comeback trail by veteran Danton Cox’s four assists.

Flin Flon and Weyburn combined for five third-period goals, but it was the Bombers who came out ahead as a Pierce Yakimchuk pair led them to a 6-3 victory over the Red Wings.

The Bombers improved to 20-0 at home this season and have eight more games at the Whitney Forum in pursuit of hometown perfection in the regular season.

Mike Reagan’s team did not gain ground on second-placed Battlefords, however, as the North Stars tied the contest with 4:24 remaining in the third period en route to a 6-5 shootout win over the Warman Wolverines.

Owen Nelson scored twice in the game to lead the Stars, while Warman’s star defenceman Pherson Loehndorf scored and extended his point streak to six contests, posting eight points over that span.
