SJHL/MJHL Showcase Day 2 Recap

The SJHL/MJHL Showcase wrapped up early Tuesday evening as the SJHL’s Team Kunitz rolled to an 8-1 win over the MJHL’s Team Zajac to finish of another three game slate on Day 2.

The Flin Flon Bombers had a nice collective showing in the finale, as Chrystopher Collin was named SJHL Player of the Game with a goal and three assists.  His linemates and Bomber teammates, Nate Hooper scored twice and Donovan Houle-Villeneuve added three assists.  Flin Flon’s production didn’t stop there as Caleb Moretz had a goal and an assist, Daylan Marchi scored and defenseman Calvon Boots had an assist after he scored on Monday.  Battlefords forward MacGregor Sinclair had a pair of goals and Nipawin’s Jordan Simoneau added the other.  Hawks’ goalie Patrick Pugliese made 24/25 saves.

Team Mitchell was shutout 4-0 by Manitoba’s Team Belfour on Tuesday afternoon.

Saskatoon product Isaac Labelle (Waywayseecappo, MJHL) stopped all 30 shots he faced.  Isaac is the brother of former Humboldt Bronco defenseman Xavier Labelle.

Humboldt’s Dane Dow made 24/27 saves in goal for the SJHL.  Ben Hiltz of the Weyburn Red Wings was named the SJHL’s Player Of The Game.

Tuesday started off with Team Schwartz evening up their record, doubling up the MJHL’s Team Garbutt 4-2.

Notre Dame’s Riley Kohonick made 37/39 saves and was the SJHL’s Player Of The Game.

Yorkton defenseman Tyson Janzen had a goal and an assist, while Jaxsen Wiebe (Nipawin), Parker Fofonoff (Melfort) and Chase Felgueiras (Humboldt) scored the others.

All in all, the SJHL picked up four wins, a regulation loss and a shootout loss over the two days, with Team Kunitz going a perfect 2-0.

Melfort’s Justin Ball and Carson Albrecht (2g-2a), and Flin Flon’s Houle-Villeneuve (4a) and Collin (1g-3a) led the Showcase with four points each.
