PORTAGE WINS SECOND STRAIGHT AS SERIES MOVES TO BATTLEFORDS

The MJHL Champion Portage Terriers made sure the Battlefords North Stars won’t be carrying around the Anavet Cup in front of their home fans, and they won Game 3 of the Best-of-Seven 5-3 in Battlefords on Tuesday night.

That means, worst case scenario for Portage, is that the series will be decided on their ice, unless they’re able to finish it off in Battlefords in five games.

Ty Barnstable (1g-3a) and Orca Wiesblatt (1g-2a) had big nights in Game 3, while Chase Brakel chipped in a pair of goals and Regina product Reece Henry opened the scoring just 1:22 into the contest.  Owen Murray had two assists from the back end, giving the 16-year-old five assists in his last two games.  Ethan Peterson made 28/31 saves in the win.

Owen Lamb tied the game for the North Stars, early in the second period before Portage made it a 3-1 spread after forty.  Ryan Gil (1g-1a) and Cody Spagrud quickly closed that gap, with goals 3:12 apart in the third, but the the Terriers went on to add two more.  Joel Gryzbowski stopped 16/21 shots on Tuesday.

The Stars look to even things up when they host Game 4 on Wednesday night.  Game 5 goes Thursday.
