LEAGUE LEADERS PUT RED WINGS ON THE BRINK

The Battlefords North Stars have a 3-0 stranglehold in their SJHL Quarter-Final against Weyburn, as the league’s top seed took their high flying show on the road, and put an 8 spot on the board for a second straight game, defeating the Red Wings in Weyburn 8-1 on Monday.

Connor Logan scored three times, picking up three of his club’s final four goals.  Cody Spagrud opened the scoring for the Stars, but that was answered quickly by Weyburn rookie Cody Chasse, who matched his regular season total with his first goal of the playoffs.

The Stars racked up four goals in the second period, starting with Ben Allen’s fifth goal in three games.  While Layne Young (1g-1a) and Reed Delainey added goals in the middle frame before Logan started off his hat trick.  He scored two more in the third and Bryce Hall added the other.

Coby Downs had a pair of helpers, and now has seven assists through three games in the series.

Shots were 36-30 for the Stars, with Taryn Kotchorek making his third straight start, stopping 29/30 shots.

The Stars have now out-scored the Red Wings 20-7 in the series, and have chance to sweep the series on Tuesday, when the two teams hook up in Weyburn again for Game 4.  All three other series will resume with Game 3’s on Tuesday, with Estevan (home to Yorkton), Nipawin (home to Humboldt) and Flin Flon (in Notre Dame) all up 2-0 in their respective league Quarter-Finals.
