19-year-old forward Mi-Kwan Tallman has officially committed to playing NCAA Division III hockey with the University of Concordia Wisconsin Falcons next season.

“Since acquiring Mi-Kwan last Jan, he has shown up every day with a smile and worked his butt off. He’s an incredible teammate and we are very excited for him to continue his hockey career in the NCAA,” said Head Coach and GM Cody Mapes.

After being acquired from the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the MJHL halfway through last season, Tallman managed 3G-9A-12P in 24 games with the Red Wings last year. This season in just the 21 games he’s played so far this season, he’s managed the same 12 points but has managed 6G-6A as he’s helped drive the line he’s been on as a 19-year-old this season. Tallman impressed the folks at Concordia Wisconsin enough during the SJHL Showcase to attract their interest.

While Tallman has earned his success and his commitment thanks to his own efforts, he’s thankful for the group around him both on the ice and on the bench who have helped him get to where his is now.

“I think for me now, I have to leave it all on the ice for the fellas, for the coaches, for helping me throughout this whole process. Everybody in there are supportive, everybody in their are my best friends, they’re my family, and every time I come to the rink I’m always smiling. The fellas are awesome.”

The commitment is the first of the year for the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings, and it’s also the first commitment under Head Coach and GM Cody Mapes. While the news is exciting, Tallman was nervous to tell his coach he wouldn’t be here for next season.

“I was super nervous! It was more of the ’20-year-old and leadership’ role that I thought I would be taking over next year, but now I’ll be moving on to new things and I thought he might be mad but I think he’s more excited than me.”
