Ice Wolves & Hounds Pick Up Key Victories

After a tough start to the year, the La Ronge Ice Wolves now have points in four straight games (3-0-1), and now four points out of a playoff spot after picking up their first road win of the year, 4-2 in Humboldt on Wednesday night.

The Ice Wolves (5-12-0-2) and Broncos were tied 1-1 after two periods but La Ronge went on to score three unanswered in the third.  Nolan Dawson (1g-1a), Shane Hounsell (1g-1a), Jordan Mish and Jason Bednarski did the scoring and Jordan Frey made 30/32 saves.

Layne Matechuk and Conner Lukan replied for the Broncos (14-7-1-1).

Jacob Standen stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced against one of the league’s most high-powered offenses, and the Notre Dame Hounds defeated the visiting Battlefords North Stars 5-1.

Marshall Wilton (1g-2a) had a three point night, while Jared Hamm, Chance Longjohn and Max Salpeter each added a goal and an assist, and Chaz Smedsrud rounded out the scoring for the Hounds (12-5-1-3).

Matthias Urbanski added his fifth of the season for the North Stars (12-3-1-0) who have now dropped two straight and continue on to Estevan, Weyburn and Yorkton Friday through Sunday.
