3-0 OUT OF THE GATE

The SJHL schedule resumed for the first time since opening weekend on Wednesday, and it saw the Humboldt Broncos and Melfort Mustangs both up their records to 3-0-0-0.

Humboldt travelled to Kindersley, where rookie defenseman Quinn Schneidmiller scored his second of the season with 8:38 left in regulation and the Broncos edged the Klippers 3-2.

Antonio DiPaolo and Derek Patter (1g-1a) also scored for Humboldt and Sam-Jaxon Visscher made 16/18 saves.

Former Bronco Nikolas Malenica opened the scoring for Kindersley late in the second period and Tanner Thompson gave them the lead in the third before the Broncos added two more.

Justen Close made 22/25 saves as the Klippers slipped to 0-3-0-0.

The La Ronge Ice Wolves struck first on home ice, but the Melfort Mustangs rattled off the next three as they won their third straight, 3-1 on the road.

Jason Bednarski got the Ice Wolves on the board first just 1:25 into the contest, but Justin Ball tied it for Melfort about four minutes later.  Tanner Zentner and Jaxon Joseph added second period goals and the teams skated to a scoreless third.

Both goalies were solid, as Melfort’s Evan Plotnik made 25/26 saves in the win, and Luke Lush turned away 35/38 at the other end.

One game Thursday night will see the Yorkton Terriers travel to Notre Dame.  Meanwhile the SJHL Showcase is also on the horizon, beginning Sunday afternoon in Saskatoon.
