TERRIERS ACQUIRE HARGRAVE FROM WEYBURN

By Mike Stackhouse

The Yorkton Terriers have added 1996 G Nathan Hargrave (Abbotsford BC) in a trade with the Weyburn Red Wings.

Yorkton head coach Casey O’Brien says he was satisfied with the performance Matt Vernon (38-saves in a 3-1 win) gave the club last night but also felt he needed a veteran between the pipes.  “He should be able to come in and stabilize the position for us and also help us deal with a rash of injuries (Kevin Wolf, Regan Seiferling, Corwin Stevely) and help our young team get a bit of confidence.”

Hargrave was a solid 10-6-and-1 with a 2.51-GAA and .919-SPCT in his first season with Weyburn after spending the previous two years with the Kindersley Klippers.  Hargrave is second in the league in minutes played and sixth in both goals against average and save percentage.

The Red Wings are expected to roll with a younger goaltending situation now that Carter Phair, a 1998 born product of Carnduff, has been returned to the club from the WHL.  Phair played 19 games for the Wings as a rookie last season.

At the moment, Yorkton has four active goalies on the roster; so more transactions are possible in the near future.
