Brett Gammar, Battlefords North Stars

Last year when the Battlefords North Stars captured their second Canalta Cup championship in three years, Brett Gammer was an 18-year-old rookie getting his feet wet at the Junior “A” level.
Despite being more of a role player he still managed to collect 34 points in 57 games, but his production was noticeably on the upswing as the season progressed. That was even more evident in the playoffs when he tallied nine points in 15 post-season contests and he averaged a point-per-game in three Anavet Cup matches against the Portage Terriers.
All of that experience has paid off handsomely as the 6-foot-0, 190-pound forward from Edmonton has grabbed a share of the early team lead in points with eight through the first five games this season. Gammer has been held off the scoresheet just once and his production has helped the North Stars start the season with a perfect 5-0-0 record.
Prior to joining the North Stars last year Gammer had spent two seasons with the CAC Edmonton Canadians, a Midget AAA club. In 66 games over those two seasons he registered 13 goals and 17 assists with 25 of those points coming in his second campaign. Gammer’s first year of midget hockey was at the minor-midget level where he had 29 points in 37 games with the Edmonton Canadians.
The North Stars have been the most explosive team offensively to start the current SJHL season and Gammer has played a key role in that result. The Battlefords have also been very stingy in their own end so having players like Gammer, who have experienced the thrill of winning a championship, will go a long way as they try and successfully defend their title.
