The Flin Flon Bombers had plenty to be excited about prior to the 2020-21 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League regular season and one reason was the inclusion of 18-year-old winger Cole Duperreault into the line-up.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Martensville, Sask., product was coming off a spectacular final season of midget hockey when he produced 73 points in 44 games for the Beardy’s Blackhawks enroute to being named the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League’s rookie of the year.

Duperreault had also posted another six points in four games at the annual Mac’s Invitational tournament in Calgary during the Christmas break showing that he was capable of putting up points regardless of the level of play.

While his debut with Flin Flon was limited to just one game, in which he was held pointless, there is no doubt it is a matter of time before he starts lighting the lamp in his new surroundings as he has done just that wherever he has played.

As a 16-year-old with the Martensville Marauders U-18 team he scored 24 goals and added 11 assists in 32 games while his first season of midget hockey saw him notch 10 goals and set up 10 others in 26 games with the Marauders when they were playing at the AA level in the Centre-Four Hockey League.

Flin Flon was the first team to be sidelined this year when the Manitoba health authority suspended sports activities two weeks earlier than its counterpart in Saskatchewan. The team barely got out of the gate before play was halted so if play does resume they will be more than anxious to show off their new talent. Duperreault will undoubtedly be just as excited to showcase his skills.
