WEYBURN SHUTS OUT KINDERSLEY IN PLAYOFF OPENER

In his first SJHL playoff start, Carter Phair picked up a tidy 30 save shutout, leading the Weyburn Red Wings past the visiting Kindersley Klippers 3-0, in Game 1 of their Best-of-Five Wild Card Series on Thursday night.

After a scoreless first period, Weyburn’s Cole Woodliffe scored the first goal of the Canalta Cup playoffs, 12:26 into the second period on the powerplay.  Ian Parker (1g-1a) extended the lead early in the third, and Connor Burke salted it away with a late empty netter.

Nick Trenciansky was no slouch in goal for the Klippers, making 29/32 saves.

The Red Wings are home again for Game 2 on Friday night, looking to take a big 2-0 edge before the series shifts to Kindersley on Sunday.

The other Wild Card Series gets going Friday with the Notre Dame Hounds and Melfort Mustangs kicking off their Best of Five in Wilcox.
