The Weyburn Red Wings opened up a three game road trip Thursday in Humboldt, where the hometown Broncos came away with a 2-1 win, on the strength of a 21/22 saves performance from goaltender Brendan Forman.
The Broncos (15-9-2-2) scored twice in the game’s first two minutes as Isaac Leik struck first at 1:06, and Braiden Koran added another just 38 seconds later. Forman held the fort the rest of the way, until Weyburn’s Taylor Schmidt scored early in the third period, his first goal as a Red Wing, and second in the SJHL.
The win jumps Humboldt from 5th overall in the league, two 2nd. Their .607 winning percentage is fourth in the league, as they’ve played a league-high (tied) 28 games.
Joseph Young made 35/37 saves in goal Thursday night for the Red Wings (10-15-0-1), who continue on to Kindersley Friday, and Battlefords on Saturday.
