Dakota Huebner

Having arrived in the Battlefords with little fanfare, Dakota Huebner has wasted little time in letting the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League know who he is – and what he can do.

The 19-year-old winger from Leduc, Alta., had never played at the Junior “A” level prior to joining the North Stars, but in his first six games with the defending league champions he has shown that he belongs as the 5-foot-8, 165-pound Huebner has collected four goals and six assists in that span helping the Battlefords get off to a quick 5-0-1-0 start.

After being held off the scoresheet in his SJHL debut, Huebner went on a tear registering all of his points in the next four games before finally cooling off a bit in his last outing.

Prior to joining the North Stars, Huebner spent parts of the past three seasons with the Leduc Riggers of the CapJHL with last year being his most productive when he averaged a point-per-game collecting 16 goals and 11 assists in 27 contests.

Huebner had five points in three games with the Riggers in his final year of midget eligibility two seasons ago, but he spent the majority of that campaign with the Leduc Oil Kings of the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League where he had 29 points in 30 games.

Huebner played at the minor Midget AAA level as a 15 year old and after posting 12-25-37 totals in 34 games he moved up to the Riggers as a 16-year-old, but only saw action in 16 games where he collected six points. Huebner then adjusted to the higher levels the following years and that has carried over to his early success with the Battlefords.

The North Stars lost plenty of firepower from their championship team a year ago, but it looks like Huebner is ready to help fill in that void.
