It was a busy Friday night across the SJHL as 10 teams took to the ice and it was the road teams finding plenty of success.
Highlights and a recap from all five games can be found below.
Weyburn 5 Humboldt 4
After dropping three road games last week, the Weyburn Red Wings bounced back in a big way Friday night as they knocked off the Humboldt Broncos 5-4. Goaltender Dazza Mitchell was superb for the Wings in the victory, stopping 49 of 53 shots. Weyburn also had five different goal scorers in the win. For Humboldt, Spencer Bell had a great night despite the loss, finding the back of the net three times. Weyburn is home to Yorkton Saturday and Humboldt hosts Notre Dame.
Estevan 2 Notre Dame 4 (No highlights due to neutral site game)
The lone “home team” to win Friday night was the Notre Dame Hounds, but the game between them and the Bruins was contested in Midale. The Hounds would hang on for a 4-2 win over the Bruins and a big reason for the Hounds success Friday was their power-play. Notre Dame would go 2/7 on the man advantage. This is the 2nd time the Hounds have beaten the Bruins this season in a neutral site game. The first being back in October in Carlyle.
Battlefords 5 Kindersley 1
Safe to say the rivalry between the Battlefords North Stars and the Kindersley Klippers is renewed. 230 penalty minutes were assessed in the first half of the home and home between the two Nutrien division teams. Five different goal scorers for the Stars Friday night in their 5-1 win over Kindersley as they now have points in seven straight games. The two teams meet again Saturday night at the ACC in North Battleford.
Flin Flon 4 La Ronge 1
The Flin Flon Bombers point streak was extended to 15 Friday night as they earned a 4-1 win on the road at the Mel in La Ronge. Jacob Vockler and Justin Lies each found the back of the net twice in the victory as the Bombers improved to 27-1-2 on the season. Dylan Handel had the lone goal for La Ronge in the loss. The Bombers and Ice Wolves will meet again Saturday in Flin Flon.
Nipawin 5 Melfort 4 OT
The Nipawin Hawks earned a huge two points on the road Friday night in Melfort as they snapped the Mustangs six game winning streak thanks to a 5-4 win in overtime. The back and forth game saw each team find the back of the net three times in the 3rd period, but it would be Landon Pappas playing overtime hero for the Hawks who picked up their 15th win of the season. These two teams will collide again Saturday night at the Cage in Nipawin.
Saturday will be the final day of SJHL hockey before the holiday break and it will feature another five big games on the docket.
