FRIDAY RECAP: Gourley, Spencer-Dahl lead Mils to win

REGINA, SK – Brayden Gourley scored his first two Saskatchewan Hockey League goals, and Matt Spencer-Dahl made 28 stops as the Melville Millionaires outlasted the Battlefords North Stars 3-1 Friday.

Spencer-Dahl has now won twice and given up only a single goal in 120 minutes of SJHL hockey since he was acquired by the Mils from Winnipeg of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League last week.

In Melfort, it was their nearby rival, the Nipawin Hawks, who came away with the win via an overtime winner from Eric Hoiness 2:07 into the extra frame to hand them the 2-1 victory over the Mustangs.

Gage Roberts made 35 saves in the win, and captain Finlay Radloff tied the contest with 1:09 remaining in regulation, and the Nipawin net was empty.

The Hawks have now won four in a row.

Flin Flon also won its fourth consecutive game by way of a come-from-behind 6-2 triumph at home against the Kindersley Klippers.

The Klips had taken the early 2-0 lead before the Bombers, led by a pair from Sam Ward and a four-point night from Maverick Deslisle, stormed back with six in a row.

17-year-old goaltender Finn Werner improved to 3-0 on the season, making 18 saves in the win, and has given up only five goals in his 180 minutes of SJHL action thus far.

In a marquee matchup in Estevan, it was the host Bruins who found a way to hold off a pair of Humboldt rallies and edge the Broncos 5-4.

Cash Olson led the way for the ‘B’s with a pair of goals, while Oliver Phillips replied with a hat trick in defeat for Humboldt.

Finally, in La Ronge, the Weyburn Red Wings scored three times early and did not look back en route to a 5-0 win over the Ice Wolves.

Josh Sale scored and added an assist, bringing his total to three multi-point nights in his last four games.
