HOBBS & GRYZBOWSKI START THEIR SERIES’ WITH SHUTOUTS
The top two playoff seeds were both backstopped by shutouts from their goaltenders on night one of the SJHL Quarter-Finals on Friday night.
Joel Gryzbowski stopped all 37 shot she saw as the Battlefords North Stars blanked the Flin Flon Bombers 3-0 in Game 1 of their Best-of-Seven series.
Kaden Boser opened the scoring for the Stars late in the first period, before Elijah and Quinton (1g-1a) Loon-Stewardson followed in the second and third periods.
Gabriel Waked made 24/27 saves in goal for the Bombers.

Declan Hobbs also turned in a shutout performance in Game 1, making 30 saves as the Nipawin Hawks beat Yorkton by that same 3-0 mark.
It was scoreless more than halfway through the game before Jake Trembay opened the scoring 13:03 into the second period. Walker Cote tacked on one more with just seven seconds left in the middle frame, and Arik Breton added an empty-netter late in the third.
Yorkton’s Ryan Ouellette made 29/31 saves in the loss.

Carson Albrecht scored his second goal of the night, on the powerplay with just 2:12 left in regulation, and the Melfort Mustangs edged the Kindersley Klippers 2-1 to kick off their series.
Noah Giesbrecht got the start in Game 1, turning aside 26 of the 27 shots he faced.
The Mustangs had to come from behind as the Klippers opened the scoring late in the first period thanks to Tyler Traptow’s first of the playoffs.
Justen Close took the loss, but made 37 saves on 39 shots.

The Humboldt Broncos were the only road team to steal Game 1 of the Quarter-Finals, as they went into Estevan and won 4-1 on Friday.
Rayce Ramsay was the difference maker, making 29/30 saves in net for Humboldt. Estevan opened the scoring on a Bryce Platt goal just 4:11 into the game and took the 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Josh Patrician got the Broncos even, but not until there were 25 seconds left in the second period. Bryson Cecconi scored the eventual winner just 40 seconds into the third, while Reid Arnold and Drew Warkentine (empty net) provided some insurance. Brayden Camrud picked up a pair of assists.
Grant Boldt made 21/24 saves for the Bruins.
All four series go again on Saturday for Game 2’s, all in the same venue.
