The La Ronge Ice Wolves are proud to announce that graduating forward Chad McIlwain has committed to Iowa State for the 2021-22 season.

“It’s one of those things that just kind of came about,” said McIlwain. “It’s been an exciting couple of weeks here trying to figure out what the next step was. I know it’s been definitely a weird time with COVID-19 and I guess a lot of waiting.”

McIlwain, who served as captain of La Ronge for the 2020-21 season, spent the last two seasons with the Ice Wolves. In 52 regular season games with La Ronge, the Calgary product recorded 25 points and 69 penalty minutes.

McIlwain scored two goals in four games against the Yorkton Terriers before the 2020 playoffs were cancelled due to the pandemic. He says he’s going to put in the work at Iowa State.

“As far as goals go right now, I think a lot of it just comes down to just being prepared and being ready for anything to come,” said McIlwain. “As far as hockey, it’s definitely just going to be working as hard as you can, being the hardest worker, first guy there, last guy off sort of thing and kind of see where that takes me.”

McIlwain will study business at Iowa State, which has an ACHA Div. 1 men’s hockey team.
