Humboldt Broncos Assistant Coach

The Humboldt Broncos Junior ‘A’ Hockey Team, a proud member of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL), is currently seeking a full-time Assistant Coach.

Humboldt is a growing community of approximately 6,500 residents and up to approximately 10,000 residents when including the surrounding communities. The city is located approximately 110 km east of Saskatoon and 235 km north of Regina. The primary industries in the area are agriculture and potash. Reporting to the General Manager/Head Coach, the successful candidate will be a leader with high integrity who believes in the pursuit of excellence. His/Her role is to contribute to the personal growth of players in conjunction with the development of their skills.

Primary duties include but not limited to:

  • Represents the Humboldt Broncos Junior ‘A’ Hockey Team in a professional manner while dealing with all aspects of the organization including, but not limited to major sponsors, season ticket holders, billets, the community of Humboldt and area;
  • Ensures players and staff are held to and conduct themselves within the established values of the Humboldt Broncos Board of Directors and within the rules and guidelines set forth by the SJHL and Hockey Canada;
  • Supports the mission and its short, medium, and long-term objectives, projections and policies, in collaboration with the General Manager/Head Coach;
  • Supports the oversight and responsibility for all hockey and business operations of the team, as assigned by the General Manager/Head Coach;
  • Provides effective supervisory duties as assigned by the General Manager/Head Coach for team staff, athletes, and volunteers;
  • Liaises effectively with Director of Leisure Services and other City of Humboldt staff, as required;
  • Provides detailed feedback in the development of personal progress plans for players;
  • Supports the planning and actualization of operational forecasts as deemed necessary by the General Manager/Head Coach for submission to the Board for approval;
  • Meets with the Board of Directors as required by the General Manager/Head Coach;
  • Supports the monitoring of the daily control of operations and recommends and implements improvement procedures, as necessary;
  • Completes other duties as assigned by the General Manager/Head Coach.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Proven coaching experience at the Midget ‘AAA’ or Junior level (or higher);
  • Previous Head Coaching experience is considered a strong asset;
  • Certified by Hockey Canada to coach at the Junior ‘A’ level;
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively with a General Manager/Head Coach;

Primary duties include but not limited to:

  • Assist in the prevention, assessment and treatment of injuries
  • Responsible for giving players medical treatment they may need prior to, during or after practices/games
  • Provide medical coverage at all practice sessions and games, both home and away
  • Develop an Emergency Action Plan
  • Provide injury evaluation, management, and rehabilitation
  • Develop a return to play plan for injured players
  • Coordinate treatment with physicians/medical personnel
  • Provide an injury report/update to the coaching staff daily
  • Maintain all medical records pertaining to treatment required
  • Coordinate medical insurance claims
  • Maintain team equipment: Sharpen skates, perform minor fixes, cleaning and laundry throughout the season
  • Keep an up to date inventory of all equipment
  • Order equipment as required
  • Participate in equipment budget development
  • Represents the Humboldt Broncos Junior ‘A’ Hockey Team in a professional manner while dealing with all aspects of the organization including, but not limited to major sponsors, season ticket holders, billets, the community of Humboldt and area;

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Graduation from an accredited Athletic Therapy University/College program
  • Respect in Sport
  • Hockey Canada Safety Program
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Certified Athletic Therapist (CATA or NATA)
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Excel, Word and Outlook or Mac equivalents
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively with a General Manager/Head Coach
