Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League

Layne Young

BATTLEFORDS NORTH STARS, F

The only game of the season that Layne Young didn’t dress for, was the final one, March 9th in Nipawin, and that was by design, as the Stars and Hawks both knew their fate as the top two teams in the league.  Young finished the season on a 16-game points streak, where he racked up 10 multi-point games (including seven in a row to open the streak), for a total of 10-goals and 31-points in those 16 games.  He led the league in goals (35), assists (72), and obviously won the scoring race with 107 points, the most in one SJHL season since 2000-2001.  He was also voted League MVP and SJHL Player Of The Year.  The Frenchman Butte, SK product will play for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in 2018-2019, with plans to obtain an Agriculture Degree.
