MUSTANGS EVEN UP CANALTA FINAL

PARKINSON SHUTOUT IN FINALS DEBUT

Shawn Parkinson saw his first action of the Canalta Cup Final in goal for the Melfort Mustangs in Saturday night’s Game 2 in Battlefords, and Coach Trevor Blevins’ hunch paid off as Parkinson made 28 saves for the shutouts as the Mustangs picked up a 1-0 victory, tying up the league championship at a game apiece.

At the other end, Joel Gryzbowski has four shutouts in these playoffs, but Melfort defenseman Jake Hobson beat him over the glove with a wrister from just inside the blue line for the only goal of the night, 11:17 into the second period.  Hobson leads all SJHL defensemen with five goals and nine points in the playoffs (his defense partner Kayle Tosh also has nine points, all assists, and picked up the lone helper on his goal).  Gryzbowski finished with 21 saves on 22 Melfort shots.

Three of the next potential four games will be in Melfort from here, as the Mustangs get set to host Games 3 & 4 this Tuesday and Wednesday.  Game 5 is also a sure thing now, and that will go Friday night in Battlefords.
