CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Carson Welke, Yorkton Terriers
1999 F Carson Welke (Yorkton SK) is still eligible for the midget ranks despite this being his second SJHL season. He erupted for 2-goals and 4-assists in 2-games against the Terriers’ arch rival, Melville Millionaires, over the weekend. He scored twice and set up another on home ice Friday night, despite the loss. He had three assists in a road victory Saturday and now has 9-goals and 7-assists in 25-games played. Runner-up: Layne Young, Battlefords North Stars.
IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK: Mike Eskra, Weyburn Red Wings
1997 D Mike Eskra (Regina SK) helped his Red Wings pick up a needed three of a possible four points against their arch rival Estevan Bruins this weekend. Eskra picked up two assists in the shootout loss on Friday night and then added a late goal to seal a 4-2 victory on Saturday. He has 3-goals and 11-assists in 26-games on the year. He’s also been chosen to take place in the WJAC Selection Camp. Runner up: Levi Kleiboer, Battlefords.
SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK: Zac Robidoux, Flin Flon Bombers
1996 G Zac Robidoux (Winnipeg MB) has been on quite a run. He registered 25-saves for his second straight shutout on Friday night, in a win over the Kindersley Klippers. He followed that up one night later by blocking 21-of-22 in a victory over the Humboldt Broncos. For the week, he had a 0.50-GAA and .979-SPCT. He’s now 8-2-and-2 with a 2.17-GAA and .922-SPCT. He has three shutouts. Runner up: Kristian Stead, Nipawin.
SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Erik Gardiner, Humboldt Broncos
1999 F Erik Gardiner (Humboldt SK) finished off the week with points in three straight games. He scored once and set up another on Thursday night, at home, against the North Stars. He assisted on his team’s only goal Saturday in Flin Flon. He also had an assist in a victory at La Ronge on Sunday to run his season totals to 11-goals and 7-assists in 19-games. Runner up: Colby Brandt, Notre Dame.
