CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nick Shumlanski, Flin Flon Bombers
1997 F Nick Shumlanski (Tisdale SK) was hot in the final few games leading into Christmas and picked up after Christmas where he left off, scoring 4-goals and 7-assists in 4-games played. He set up two goals on December 18th as the Bombers lost a one goal game to Kindersley. He had two goals and two helpers one night later in a victory over the Klippers. He scored once and set up another on Saturday in a win over La Ronge and then had a goal and two assists on Sunday as the Bombers defeated the Ice Wolves for the second time in as many nights. Shumlanski leads the Bombers with 12-goals and 25-assists in 32-games played. Runner-up: Rob Johnson, Flin Flon.
SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK: Bo Didur, Estevan Bruins
1997 G Bo Didur (West Vancouver BC) stopped 22-of-23 shots on Saturday night as the Bruins emerged with a 5-1 win over Weyburn to open the post-Christmas schedule. The only blemish against Didur was an early third period goal. He has 3 wins in his first four appearances since arriving in a trade last month. He’s posted a 1.75-GAA and .939-SPCT to go along with one shutout. Runner-up: Colby Entz, Melville.
IBAS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK: Loch Morrison, Melfort Mustangs
1997 D Loch Morrison (Prince Albert SK) picked up three assists in a 6-2 win over the Humboldt Broncos on December 22nd and was also named the game’s first star in what was his team’s only game played over the time period in question. Morrison, who has 12-goals and 26-assists in 31-games played, is the second highest scoring defenseman in the SJHL this season. He’s also his team’s leading scorer, which isn’t an easy accomplishment for a blueliner. Runner-up: Ben Lanfermann, Flin Flon.
MYSASK 411 SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Caleb Moretz, Flin Flon Bombers
1998 F Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks AK) had points in all four of his team’s games played (two prior to Christmas and two after Christmas). The Bombers went 3-and-1 in those games as Moretz scored in a one goal loss to the Klippers on December 18th and then setup a goal one night later in a win. He had a goal on Saturday in a win over La Ronge and added two assists on Sunday in a victory over the Ice Wolves to give himself 9-goals and 16-assists in 32-games. Runner-up: Calvon Boots, Flin Flon.
