SGEU MVP of the Week: Ty Mason, Weyburn Red Wings

You couldn’t have asked for a better week for Weyburn Red Wings forward Ty Mason and the rest of his club. The team picked up a trio of wins to help them move up the standings and into a tie for 7th, and Mason played a massive part with a goal and eight assists. Mason and his running mate Riley Morgan continue to have great chemistry on Weyburn’s top line, and the Wings continue to surge up the SJHL standings with points in 12 of their last 13 games. Thanks to his superb week, Mason is now tied for 10th in SJHL scoring with 20 goals and 29 assists. This is Mason’s 2nd time being named SGEU MVP of the Week.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Jared Picklyk, Humboldt Broncos

The Humboldt Broncos have won nine of their last 10 games and a big reason why has been the play of Jared Picklyk in between the pipes. The Kelowna, B.C product is 6-1 since joining the Broncos in January, and this past week he helped the club come back and earn two points in Wilcox against the Notre Dame Hounds, and followed it up by earning a win in his start at home against the Estevan Bruins. The 19-year-old finished the week with a .921 save percentage, making 58 saves in two appearances.

DirectWest Rookie of the Week: Matthew Van Blaricom, Humboldt Broncos

Since his arrival in the SJHL, Matthew Van Blaricom has been nothing short of sensational for the Humboldt Broncos. In his first 24 games of his SJHL career, the 16-year-old has 10 goals and 10 assists. This past week, Van Blaricom found the back of the net twice, with one of them being a candidate for Goal of the Year against Estevan, and also added an assist. This is his 2nd time being named DirectWest Rookie of the Week.

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Kevin Minnoch, Melfort Mustangs

For the 3rd time this season, Kevin Minnoch of the Melfort Mustangs has been named SuperU Defenceman of the Week. The 20-year-old defenceman helped the Mustangs earn five out of a possible six points by racking up three goals and adding an assist. Minnoch now leads the SJHL in goals by a Defenceman with 12 and is 4th among SJHL Defenceman in points with 38.
