PLAYERS OF THE WEEK (Feb 18)

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:  Keenan Taphorn, Yorkton Terriers
2000 F Keenan Taphorn (Yorkton SK) helped boost the Terriers to four straight wins this past week by scoring 2-goals and 3-assists, all in the absence of linemate and league leading scorer Chantz Petruic.  Taphorn’s big game was on Friday when he potted one and set up two others in a victory at Humboldt. He also scored a powerplay goal on Tuesday in a win versus Nipawin and set up a goal Monday as the Terriers downed Weyburn.  Taphorn has 7-goals and 26-assists in 28-games on the year. Runner-up: Ty Budai, La Ronge.

MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:  Seth Summers, Battlefords North Stars
1999 D Seth Summers (St. Albert AB) is part of a three headed monster on the blueline with the North Stars as he, Matthew Fletcher, and Noah Form are all elite level defensemen and this week it was Summers’ turn to shine as he picked up 2-goals and 3-assists in 4-games played to move into a tie for the league lead in defensemen scoring with Flin Flon’s Mason Martin.  Summers has 13-goals and 35-assists in 54-games. It marks a 35 point improvement from last year. Summers had a goal and an assist on Sunday in a 3-1 decision at Nipawin and he also scored versus Notre Dame on Tuesday. He had assists in each game at Flin Flon over the weekend. Runner-up: Devan Harrison, Estevan.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:  Keenan Rancier, Estevan Bruins
2000 G Keenan Rancier (Victoria BC) had a 27-save shutout last Wednesday against La Ronge and then stopped 30-of-31 two nights later in a win over Melville.  Rancier has shaken off a tough end to January by turning in four splendid starts to begin February (4-0, 1.25, .960, 1SO). Rancier currently ranks sixth amongst active netminders in the SJHL with a 2.71-GAA.  His .918-SPCT is seventh. His 23 wins is tied for first in the league and he also leads the league in minutes played. Runner-up: Matthew Pesenti, Yorkton.

DIRECTWEST SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Erik Boers, Estevan Bruins
2001 F Erik Boers (St. Albert AB) has proven to be a solid pick up for the Bruins as the December 1st acquisition picked up a goal and four assists in just two games played this past week, bringing his overall SJHL totals to 3-goals and 7-assists in 16-games.  Boers had a goal and a pair of assists as the Bruins stunned La Ronge 8-0 on Wednesday. He set up two more on Friday in a 5-1 win over Melville. Runner-up: Steven Norum, Yorkton.
