SGEU MVP of the Week: Max Monette, Weyburn Red Wings

The Weyburn Red Wings snapped their five-game losing streak Friday night at home over the Nipawin Hawks and leading the charge was Captain Max Monette. The 20-year-old found the back of the net three times in the Wings 6-2 win Friday. He also scored two more throughout the week and added a pair of assists. The Banff, Alberta product is now up to 7 goals and 7 assists on the young campaign and is tied for 8th in league scoring.

Bourgault Forward of the Week: Cole Wirun, Notre Dame Hounds

While the Notre Dame Hounds may be 3-9-0-0 on the season, they are 3-0-0-0 since acquiring Cole Wirun from the Canmore Eagles. Wirun made an immediate impact with his new club, finding the back of the net in his first game with the Hounds in their 4-2 victory over Weyburn Wednesday. The 19-year-old then added a pair of goals Friday against the Estevan Bruins. In total, five points in his first three games as a Hound and has sparked a bit of a turnaround for the club.

SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Noah Houle, Flin Flon Bombers

Despite leading the league in points, surprisingly in the first month of the season, Bombers Defenceman Noah Houle has yet to receive any player of the week honours. That changes this week as Houle had four helpers in another pair of wins for the Flin Flon Bombers who are now 11-0-1-0 on the season. Houle leads the league in points with 3 goals and 19 assists.

DirectWest Rookie of the Week: William Forsberg, La Ronge Ice Wolves

The La Ronge Ice Wolves returned home this weekend and got three out of a possible four points. Rookie William Forsberg continues to produce for his new club and this week was no different. Forsberg found the back of the net Sunday night in a 4-2 win over the Kindersley Klippers, but he also added four assists this week. Forsberg has 3 goals and 10 assists in 13 games this season, which is second among rookies in the SJHL.

Sasktel Goalie of the Week: Justen Maric, Battlefords North Stars

It was a goaltending duel this weekend between the Humboldt Broncos and the Battlefords North Stars. As a result, for the 2nd week in a row, Justen Maric of the Battlefords North Stars has earned Sasktel Goalie of the Week honours, with Benjamin Motew being a close second. Maric was the busier of the two netminders and allowed just two goals on 77 shots in the pair of games.

Saskatchewan Player of the Week: James Venne, Melfort Mustangs (from Saskatoon, Sask)

19-year-old goaltender James Venne had a solid week in between the pipes for the Melfort Mustangs. Wednesday he allowed just one to the defending Canterra Seeds Cup Champion Battlefords North Stars and then followed it up on Friday with a 36 save performance in La Ronge against the Ice Wolves. Venne currently leads the SJHL in wins amongst goaltenders with 9.
